Just as my child brings his broken toys
for me to mend,
I took my broken dreams to God
because He was my friend.
But then instead of leaving Him
to work alone,
I hung around and tried to help
with ways that were my own.
At last I snatched them back
“How could You be so slow?”
“What could I do, My child?” He said.
“You never did let go.” Faith Mitchner
‘’Father, everything is possible for you. Please take this cup of suffering away from me. Yet I want your will, not mine.
I was searching deep in my heart on what to write but I couldn’t really figure out what exactly I wanted to write about. After my study I picked up a book and as I was reading my heart skipped when I saw this words
“Let Go, and Let God’’
This is an aspect in all of our lives that we struggle so much in.
Letting go and letting God simply means total surrender to God without any exception. It is very hard, it sure is and I could understand why it seems extremely difficult to surrender all of our hopes and dreams to God.
Submit yourself to the Lord, resist the devil and he will flee from you.
We often think we have the power to change the world, just the way we want it to be, we want to be able to control things for ourselves without having someone tell us the way it should be done but while seeking to have all these things we need to be careful because our minds are very fragile and we need to just accept the fact that we cant always have everything that we want no matter how hard we try.
We need to realise that there are some things that we just don’t have control over, the only person who has control over the universe and how it should be run is the one who created it in the first place and that person is God.
So when we are faced with difficulties that are beyond our control we need not search in the wrong places to create a solution because everything and anything that happens to you and me has God’s mark on it and He made you go through that for a reason greater than our imagination.
Let us not forget that God knows our end even before our beginning, He sees it all and that is why we often say that He is the author and finisher of our faith. He is the one writing our story and if we constantly rely on our own understanding or knowledge to get things done, it is up to us to face the repercussion.
“Surrender yourself to the Lord, and wait patiently for him.’’
Instead of trying so hard to change the way things are, what we should be rather doing is trusting Him to get us through all that we are going through.
We must rely not on our own understanding but connect ourselves to God who knows more than us and His willing to let us have more of Him.
The problem behind all this is that we human beings are extremely impatient, we cant wait to get things done fast and that also is the problem we have among our youths who are desperate to make money and because of the selfish desire to make it they indulge themselves in all forms of activities just to make it in life.
They want flashy cars, they want the latest fashion trend and they are hungry for attention, for fame and all these will only lead us to chaos.
I often say that there are only two kind of people in the world: Those who want to be successful and those who want to be great. Which are you?
Those who want to be successful are those who want to get things done fast, they are willing to sacrifice parts of their body just to make it, they want the easy way out while the other one is for those who want to be great, these are the people who are Agent of Change, Light Bearers, these are people who want to be known not just for the money they acquire but rather for the many lives they were of service to.
Thinking about it now it is just as Jesus describes it in the Scriptures. Life is a journey where we walk the paths of the earth to find the happiness that our soul graves for. One road looks beautiful on the outside, things are very easy, the girls are all around you, the money, wow! Everything seems so beautiful and as we keep moving on it gets to a point when for us to keep getting the good things of life we have to pay for it, this quote says it all:
‘’There is no free food in free town and nothing goes for nothing.”
We keep giving to take until our pocket is drained and finally the last request before the final fall will be our soul.
The devil is only after our soul and for him to get a hold of it, he will stop at nothing to get it to do its bidding. While on the other hand there is another road which is narrow and bumpy, every step we take on that road leaves a lasting change in our lives, things are not all so easy while walking the road, infact we encounter a lot of difficulties but only those who scale through to the very end will be awarded and will gain eternal life..
One road leads to condemnation while the other leads to eternal life!
Patience is the key to open any locked door, and for us to be patient we must learn to surrender our thoughts, our plans and our lives to God.
Even in that abusive relationship, even in that marriage and all that we go through in life, God is constantly speaking to us but act deaf because we want it our way, we must learn to master the art of letting go of all that brings us down, those things that are after our happiness, those things that bring pain in our hearts, and let God into it, patiently learning while waiting for Him to make things right for us.
Realising that we are nothing without God is a perfect place to start trusting in him, when we see ourselves as nothing without his grace or without his guidance we are able to finally say that we can trust him and submit ourselves wholeheartedly.
Trust in God is not an exercise but a requirement to know him better, to let him speak through us and in us, trusting in God and not in our own abilities deepens our love for him and reveals the beauty in us.
‘’The more we let God take us over, the more truly ourselves we become-because he made us. He invented all the different people that you and I were intended to be… It is when I turn to Christ, when I give up my personality, that I first begin to have a real personality of my own.’’ C.S. Lewis
Genuine surrender to God says, Father, if this problem, pain, sickness, or circumstances is needed to fulfil your purpose and glory in my life or in another’s, please don’t take it away.’’ This level of maturity does not come easy. In Jesus case, he agonised so much over God’s plan that he sweat drops of blood. Surrender is hard work. In our case, it is intense warfare against our self centered nature. Rick Warren
Stand still and know that I am God!
